Stage Mom

I started writing this on Thursday...please excuse the delay in posting :) It's 11:27pm on a Thursday and I'm not in bed. Instead I'm in horrendous traffic, freezing cold and riding back from Indianapolis. Today I played stage mom. Only not really. As you know, I went through a long period of racing a LOT. Weekend after weekend all spring and summer long. And who is always by my side, carrying bags, finding parking, juggling water bottles and generally containing my crazy? The Colonel of course! So now it's my turn. Part of my retirement which is still in full force (well partial force) is to be more supportive of the people in my life who have always been so supportive of me in my endeavors. This means watching more and to some degree doing less.  Tonight The Colonel had his first Golden Gloves amateur boxing match! It was something he's always wanted to do and this year got serious about it. He's been training like crazy, eating like crazy and most i...

Vegetarian in Puerto Rico

Hey friends! As you may or may not remember, I got married something like 3 months ago and The Colonel and I just got around to going on that little trip that comes after. Since snow is useless when one can't snowboard I decided to run away from it and soak up some vitamin D in the lovely land of Puerto Rico! I'll have some pretty big news when I get back but for now here are some pictures to envy as you anxiously await the next installment.

Long Weekend Long Run

See what I did there?  As everyone else is discussing the long weekend I went with discussing my long run. Oh Marathin Monster. You have consumed my entire being. After a very successful Track Tuesday I sat on the couch never to run again. That's a lie. But I didn't run again the rest of the week. Saturday the plan was to hit the always scary 16 mile mark for the long run. Why I had such a hard time getting out of bed I will never know. But I peeled myself from bed, stumbled along in the dark cursing as I stepped on random bits of things (wood floors hold a tremendous amount of debris) and made it to the kitchen for breakfast. Close to 7am Autumn sent me the text I always secretly wish she will send saying she couldn't run. I was disappointed initially but upon letting my dog outside and closing the door sweating I didn't feel too bad about the decision to skip. I tried to lay back down on the couch but no real luck falling asleep so I got on Facebook to see a post...

A Proposal Story and an Introduction to The Marathon Monster

Who is up for a two-fer! We've got a two in one today because I've obviously been slacking on the blog front and apparently there's a lot to talk about. So let's get started shall we? Part One: A Proposal Story I hear it's customary in our society to blog about your proposal if you're a blogger who happens to get engaged. So as not to be ousted from the community here you go.  The Colonel knows me pretty well so he didn't bother with a lot of pomp and circumstance. I'd always told him I didn't even want a proposal. No fancy dinner, down on one knee, heartfelt awkward speech or any event/activity that cost too much money, involved other people or embarrassed me. At least I'm not specific right? I'm not much of a romantic. I'm so glad that he didn't get caught up in what he  thought  he was  supposed  to do and just made it real. Two Saturdays ago  I had been at work all morning and came home hot, hungry, tired and incredibly grumpy...

Salute The Colonel

Today marks 3 years for me and The Colonel except that's kind of a made up date because 6 months in, we couldn't remember the exact day we became a couple so we just thought June 3rd sounded good. We don't have a great "and that's how we met" story other than we were both Kentuckians who happened upon each other in Dallas. From the start I'd been trying to lose him but haven't quite been able to shake him yet. The salesman that he is, we're not sure if we actually like each other still or if he just keeps selling us both on the idea of liking each other. Either way it's been working so far. I'm not terribly sappy or good with words (wrote the blogger) when it comes to this sort of stuff. But I would like to say Thank You and I'm Sorry to my dear Colonel for various things because when you spend a lot of time with someone, especially if you plan to continue spending more time with them, you've got to learn to repeat those two...
