When I'm Not Blogging

Sarah  posted her version of this post just the other day and I thought I would follow suit. It seemed particularly appropriate as I've had an absence of blogging as of late so I might as well do a little explainin'. via I'm a busy bee and I like it that way so here are just a few of the many things I'm doing when I'm not chatting with you fine people. *Cue Titanic reference via Training Myself With that little Ironman race  coming up I've been spending a lot of time trying to get my life in order before training actually starts. In the meantime, I'm getting in 2 solid swim, bike, run and strength sessions in 6 days each week. I started up with my awesome Coach  on January 1st and so far so good. The workouts aren't long but between commuting (I live a good drive from the pool, gym and most safe outdoor running routes), changing clothes, showering and eating it takes up much more time than I realized. Luckily I'll be moving before ish ...

Undoing the Damage of Sitting...Take Two!

As you know, I'm still spending a large chunk of my time doing this personal training thing and last month I got the chance to teach my first workshop! Articles are popping up everywhere about the dangers of sitting and some go as far as to say “sitting is the new smoking”. Did you know that even activities like running, cycling and group exercise classes can’t always combat those damages? Your hips, glutes, low back and neck take more of a beating while sitting at a desk looking at a computer, on the couch watching tv or in a chair playing video games than during most any other activity we perform on a daily basis. The program I put together is called Undoing the Damage of Sitting and the folks at Louisville Strength and Endurance  (LSE) were nice enough to host me. I even had my graphic designer put together some advertising pieces and it actually went pretty well. So well in fact that I've been asked to do it again! On Wednesday, December 17th I'll be once agai...

The Big Reveal!

It's been quiet around here lately huh? Well it's for good reason. I've had a lot going on lately because I started my new desk job until I can make enough green through personal training. So far I like it a lot and it's only part time so I have time before 8 am and after 2:30 pm to do as I please and it's database work so not the kind of stuff you bring home with you. So what have I been doing with my time away from blogging? Besides running. Setting up my new online personal training business ! What! What on earth is online personal training? Don't trainers have to squat next to you and scream at you and drink your tears? No, we actually don't. There are a few reasons I chose to go the online route right now and a few key benefits I like to point out to people. First, it saves me a lot of time and time is money. By not driving all over creation to train people at different locations or paying gym use rental fees and additional insurance premiums I save...

New Beginnings

What a day! I'm a creature of habit. Not sure if you know that. But as a creature of habit I try to avoid change entirely or at least make changes very slowly as not to get overwhelmed. Unfortunately that didn't quite work with the new job plus training for a new race. I started full time at my new job on the 1st and so far it's been pretty great! There's a LOT to learn but I'm hanging in there and luckily since it's interesting I'm retaining info pretty well. The trouble is adjusting to the new schedule. For starters, I don't work the same hours everyday. I also don't have the two days in a row off over the weekend anymore and start my days much later than I'm used to. I'm definitely not complaining about being able to move 5am workouts to 7am but it does take some adjusting. Speaking of workouts, I'm doing a lot of them. My new coach has got me going 6 days a week and the distances are a lot more than I've been used to. Over the pas...

Back in the Ville and Back in Business!

Hey there everyone and Happy Sunday! I woke up this morning finally recovered from traveling home from Puerto Rico. I obviously didn't need to recover from my busy week of nothing but making our way home Friday was a nightmare! I managed to get my om on during the 4 hour flight and go through everything that was good at that moment instead of pulling my fingernails off one by one to distract myself from the screaming children and barking dog. I think om-ing was a much better choice. So what were some of those good things? Oh just the usual, I have a place to live, a nice guy hanging around, pets I like, the plane wasn't crashing, oh yeah, and I got my dream job! I wasn't actively looking for a new job. My current position was just fine, not great but it was a positive atmosphere and work environment which is what I will always need in life. I hate changing jobs, I equate it to moving. BUT I also have a really hard time settling which has lead to more professional shifts tha...

Giveaway Winner, (Non) Marathoning and Getting Married

CONGRATULATIONS to Elena who won the Group Giveaway sponsored by Kaliwood ! Elena is in for some fun goodies so next time make sure you enter so you can get in on the action! Now for your regularly scheduled programming.... Hi there, another absence I apologize for but my life has been crazy in good and bad ways. First with the bad: I'm officially about 3 weeks out from the marathon and still can't really run because my leg is not getting any better. Who runs a marathon after 6 weeks of slow, sporadic and moderately painful run/jogs? This girl. Should be a spectacle. I'm experiencing some PTSD after the Tri for Sight and am afraid to swim because I'm afraid of sharing a pool lane with someone. It's starting to really interfere with my swimming which I'm going to need to start doing more of since I'm planning that 70.3. I have not actually picked a 70.3. I was originally on board for Rev3 Cedar Point . Which then became the NashVegas Triathlon . W...

Loving the I-P-A-D

Hey friends! Im joining you from my borrowed iPad this evening! There is a resident at work who gets to use one in dialysis and insists on calling it an I-p-a-d saying each letter instead of by its Apple approved name. It is adorable. Since I typically try to keep things positive here in the vile I haven't been blogging much because I haven't been feeling particularly positive. Aside from the engagement not many good things have been happening so since I had almost nothing nice to say I took the oath of silence. If you aren't a close friend of mine who has had to hear my cries you should thank me. In the interest of positivity, here are 10 positive things I can think of right now: 1. Today was my day off and it was spent almost entirely on the couch. 2. I have jobs to have occasional days off from. 3. I'm still engaged and my ring is still pretty. 4. I'm already within 7 pounds of my end of summer weight loss goal. 5. I have a meeting with my top wedding...

Since You've Been Gone

I guess a more appropriate title would be "Since I've Been Gone" but that isn't the name of a song by the great Kelly Clarkson. Anyway, how's it going? If it makes you feel better, I've not only been neglecting you lately but also pretty much everything that is considered social including the reading of other blogs and my beloved triathlon message boards. Let's not make this a habit shall we? So let's do a quick fill you in. Last week I started a new job working in dietary at a long term care/rehab facility. I like it a lot so far but part time has become 4-5 days per week instead of the more traditional 2-4. I'm sure I won't be complaining once the paycheck rolls in tomorrow but for now, I'm tired. I also managed to workout Monday through Friday last week along with my significantly more physical job so this week I was feeling the exertion hangover. Friday night my cousin came in from New York and was staying with my mom so that sucked u...
