Liebster Award

Can you believe it? I take a total hiatus from blogging and win an award! Kind of. I should quit blogging more often. More importantly, my good friend over at Press On and Run  gave ME the Liebster Award and every award winner must do their diligence to follow the rules and of course give an acceptance speech. Except this speech is really a blog and it's just answering a few questions. So without further ado... The Rules 1. You must link back to the person who nominated you 2. You must answer the 10 Liebster questions given to you by the nominee before you. 3. You must pick 10 bloggers to be nominated for the award 4. You must create 10 questions for your nominees 5. You must go to their blogs and notify the nominees And now, my answers: 1. Your favorite piece of running equipment? Oh boy....shoes maybe? I have an obscene amount of running shoes from working at that running store but it's all for not if I don't have a good sports bra. My current fa...

Vietnam Kitchen

I don't feel that I've taken true advantage of my Vegetarian in the Ville name so I did a little recon over the weekend to bring you a fun new (to me) little vegetarian friendly restaurant right here in Louisville. Vietnam Kitchen is a little restaurant located in the South End and is apparently kind of a big deal. What can I say? I don't get out much. But we were being spontaneous and adventurous so we hopped in the car, pulled up the map app and typed in Thai food. Nothing withing 5 minutes. So we switched to Vietnamese. The first restaurant we got to was closed. The app said they closed at 9 but it was actually 8. Which in real time meant they locked the doors at 10 till. Alright. Back in the car for the next closest place. It was a cool little place and had two very  important attributes that make it a new staple in my diet. A full page of vegetarian dishes (talk about overwhelming) And ginger ale...because I'm 60. At least. I started with the mos...

Stage Mom

I started writing this on Thursday...please excuse the delay in posting :) It's 11:27pm on a Thursday and I'm not in bed. Instead I'm in horrendous traffic, freezing cold and riding back from Indianapolis. Today I played stage mom. Only not really. As you know, I went through a long period of racing a LOT. Weekend after weekend all spring and summer long. And who is always by my side, carrying bags, finding parking, juggling water bottles and generally containing my crazy? The Colonel of course! So now it's my turn. Part of my retirement which is still in full force (well partial force) is to be more supportive of the people in my life who have always been so supportive of me in my endeavors. This means watching more and to some degree doing less.  Tonight The Colonel had his first Golden Gloves amateur boxing match! It was something he's always wanted to do and this year got serious about it. He's been training like crazy, eating like crazy and most i...

Happy Birthday

It's my birthday! This is actually the first year I've been anything but excited about it and that makes me really sad. It could be because last year I spent my birthday running around the happiest place on earth for the Princess Half. It could be because next year I'll be in my mid to late 20s instead of just mid. It could be because it's now been 10 years since I started making my escape from Kentucky plan and a decade later I'm still here. I don't know what it is but I do know that today I have a wonderful family, comfy home and a few good friends and that is all I really need right now :)

SkyMall Favorites

Oh hey, long time no see. I do have things going on but none that are worth blogging about. But I have had this idea for a long time and during our Puerto Rico travels I took pictures to make this a reality. So today's the day, here are a few of my favorite items for sale in the ever popular airplane mag, SkyMall. I'm using the blogger app so please excuse any formatting errors. Enjoy, and I'm sure there's a way to place orders for these must have items online! I don't actually know what's happening here... I don't know what this is either, but I'm all for exercise! In case you need added privacy while using your neck pillow, here's a hood. For all my cyclist/triathlete friends, forget aero bars! The Colonel's next birthday present. My favorite! Who doesn't want to see their pets as 17th century nobility???! I don't understand what makes this water different since there's no description but drinking water is a good thing.

So You're Thinking of Eloping...

I started this post a long time ago but never really got through it. So since there's little in the way of training to chat about, let's keep things real...but not too real. Keeping it real can go wrong says Dave Chapelle. Anyway. I'm sure I mentioned it somewhere along the line but The Colonel and I basically eloped at the end of September. In November, we visited a cool event space where we will hold our one year anniversary party and the coordinator there was fascinated by our story and practically begged me to blog about it. I thought it was weird, but she explained that she comes across a lot of people who, after it's all said and done, tell her they wished they would've done something different. I think it's really sad that people let other people or expectations or norms decide how they live their lives and particularly how they celebrate great life moments. Here's the deal, if you're thinking about eloping, make sure it's really what yo...

Updates and Becoming a Minimalist

Hi! There's not much going on these days since I'm not training excessively for a monumental event but I've got to admit I'm really enjoying it. Since I only retired from racing, not running I went out with  Autumn  for about 6 miles on Sunday morning. It was stupid. Dark, cold, windy and snowy/icy. We called it a trail run since we had to do so much navigating over terrain to not totally face plant. In my attempt to become a minimalist I didn't wear my Garmin. I still wanted to know what I'd done after the fact so I synced it up and zipped it into a pocket where I couldn't see it. When we were done running, I pulled it out, hit stop, and didn't even jog in small circles for 2 minutes to get the mileage to a more even number. That's a big deal guys! As far as becoming a minimalist (and I use this term very  loosely) I'm really just getting rid of a couple of things, and maybe not even entirely. First to go was the scale. It's been about...
